AIR PURIFIER OR VENTILATION – OR BOTH?

Indoor air purifiers are on trend. What the units do and why ventilation is still important.

In light of the pandemic that has dominated the past two years, indoor air purifiers are becoming increasingly popular in schools, nurseries and other public facilities. But what are the benefits of these units and isn't simple ventilation alone enough?

One thing is certain, to reduce the risk of infection, the aerosol concentration in the room must be kept low at all times. Although this is possible with ventilation,
- sufficient ventilation is often not possible,
- especially in winter, ventilation is counterproductive in terms of energy,
- it is simply forgotten.

Ventilation for an invigorating boost

Regular ventilation helps to replace stale room air containing CO2 with oxygen-rich fresh air – bringing an invigorating boost to our little grey cells. In other words, opening the windows and letting fresh air in is always a good idea. However, it can become a problem if frequent ventilation means that lessons are constantly interrupted or the classroom becomes too cold in bad weather.

This is where one of the advantages of air purifiers comes into play: the use of an indoor air purifier means that the intervals between ventilation can be extended, thus removing the need to constantly open windows. Rooms should still be ventilated now and again, but only to exchange CO2 and no longer with the aim of reducing the viral load in the room.

The use of an air purifier in schools therefore helps to ensure an uninterrupted lesson flow. Since round-the-clock ventilation is no longer required, lower levels of exhaust gases, allergens, pollen and fine dust are carried into the room. It is also easier for pupils to concentrate on their learning since distracting traffic noise or the cold in winter are kept outside the classroom.

Air purifiers against viral loads, allergens and pollutants

Technologically advanced indoor air purifiers like ION TEC AIR 80 offer hygienic safety and comfort for the best possible indoor air quality. The innovative system filters the air and offers a filtration efficiency of virtually 100% against (corona)viruses. The ION TEC AIR 80 also eliminates fine dust as well as mould spores, germs and pollen, to which allergy sufferers are particularly sensitive. The digitally controlled high-voltage technology guarantees consistent, reliable filtration efficiency during operation.

Innovative technology for the classroom – safety included

Well-designed indoor air purifiers are easy to use in any classroom. The ION TEC AIR 80 comes complete with a plug & play feature, meaning that no separate installation is required for its use. Simply plug it into the socket outlet and it's ready to go. Since the unit is mobile, it can also be used flexibly in different rooms.

A touchpanel ensures intuitive operation complete with child safety lock, timer function and active service management. The switch-on function enables optimal unit configuration for the entire school week.

No distracting noises: especially at school, it is important to create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and concentration. At 20 to 50 dB(A), the ION TEC AIR 80 is extremely quiet and does not distract the children and young people from their learning.

Very low maintenance and operating costs: the indoor air purifier is also impressively economical to run. Thanks to the ION-TEC technology, maintenance and operating costs are extremely low compared to most other units on the market. In addition, no expensive HEPA filter is required since only the charcoal filter needs to be replaced. This eliminates odours, ozone and VOCs. In times of rising energy prices, the indoor air purifier also impresses with its low power consumption between 60 and 275 watts.

Conclusion: ventilation is good, air purifier is better

Above all, classic ventilation promotes CO2 exchange and brings freshness into the room. However, when it comes to tackling viruses and pollutants, indoor air purifiers offer unrivalled advantages. They effectively lower the viral load, remove pollutants from the air and help to ensure an interrupted lesson flow. The ideal solution is to use both ventilation and an air purifier together.

* The ION TEC AIR 80 was tested by the Institute of Air Handling and Refrigeration (ILK Dresden) to verify that it filters or inactivates coronaviruses. The indoor air purifier achieved a filtration efficiency rate of up to 99.7%.
