A salad bar steals the show on TV
As part of the TV series besseresser Kids - Lege packt's an, B.PRO donated equipment to the Wilhelm Lehmbruck School in Dorsten. The salad bar and clearing station from the BASIC LINE Kids range bring healthy eating to life for children. The handover by Product Manager Patrick Hilpp was a highlight of the filming
An unusual hush presides in the canteen at the Wilhelm Lehmbruck School. Cameras are set up, children peer curiously through the kitchen door. What is going on in there? Then something shiny and silver rolls into the room – a salad counter at a child-friendly height, brightly lit and freshly stocked with tomatoes and other healthy vegetables. "How cool!" So much enthusiasm for greens? B.PRO makes it possible.

The occasion was the production of the TV series besseresser Kids - Lege packt's an (KiKA), an offshoot of the ZDF besseresser show, which shows how modern school catering can work. The pupils of the Wilhelm-Lehmbruck-Schule in Dorsten relished the chance to get in front of the camera.
Of course, there was also a reward awaiting them: B.PRO donated a salad bar and mobile clearing station from the BASIC LINE Kids series to the school. "When the children saw the food counter for the first time, they immediately realised how much potential it had," enthuses Patrick Hilpp. The B.PRO product manager accompanied the handover on site. "That's exactly why we develop products like this – to make healthy eating fun."

"Good food is part of school education"
It all began in spring 2025 with a call for participation in the new TV series on Instagram. Patricia Günther-Grasedieck from the parents' association of Wilhelm-Lehmbruck-Schule e.V. came across it by chance. "I immediately felt that it would be right up our street," recalls the 49-year-old.
After several selection rounds, the decision was made: The primary school in Dorsten was to be part of the project. Filming took place between April and the end of August.

The film team was on location for a total of around ten days, and the timing could not have been better. Indeed, it also coincided with the move of Wilhelm Lehmbruck School's all-day childcare centre to a new building, bringing with it new requirements for school meals. A previously small room with a tiny kitchen, originally planned for a maximum of five children, has now been transformed into a new canteen, which is also used as a recreation room with an adjoining, spacious kitchen and room to cater for a total of 75 children in three groups.
"It was important to us to show how much commitment there is in schools and that good food is a fundamental part of it," says Günther-Grasedieck. The production team then had the idea of leaving the children with something lasting – something that would have an impact beyond the filming. Whilst researching child-friendly food serving systems, the team came across the BASIC LINE Kids from B.PRO.

B.PRO donated two modules from the BASIC LINE Kids series for the new canteen. Both are designed to enable children can put together their own salad and then return their dishes themselves.
"Our BASIC LINE Kids has been deliberately developed at eye level with children," explains Patrick Hilpp. "It combines functionality, hygiene, safety and enjoyment of food. And that's exactly what we wanted to bring to life here."
The advantages of BASIC LINE Kids:
- Child-friendly height of 750 to 900 mm – ergonomic, convenient and ideal for independent operation
- Versatile use: as a hot buffet, cold buffet (with active or still cooling), convection cooling or plain buffet
- Safe and appealing: non-tip construction, rounded corners, cover panels, and available in many attractive, bright colours that appeal to children
The system also impresses with its seamless stainless-steel design, which fulfils the highest hygiene standards and makes cleaning particularly easy. Peripheral products are also available in the Kids version, such as tray and cutlery trolleys.
Promoting personal responsibility in food service
On the last day of filming, the excitement was palpable – and when Patrick Hilpp surprised the school with the new salad bar, there was no holding back. "Definitely an upgrade!" enthused the pupils.
"I would never have expected children to be so happy about salad," laughs Hilpp. This enthusiasm has remained, confirms Patricia Günther-Grasedieck from the parents' association: "The pupils still think the salad bar is great." Although the children were already good salad eaters, the new module has significantly improved service. "The lighting, the cool freshness and the beautiful presentation make a huge difference," says Günther-Grasedieck. "It's almost like going to a restaurant or on holiday – the children really enjoy the atmosphere."

Self-service remains an important part of the concept: "For us, it goes without saying that the children should be allowed to put together their own meals. The new food counter simply makes the whole experience more pleasant, more structured and much more appealing." The pupils also learn to be mindful when handling food. "This is food education in the best sense of the word," emphasises Patrick Hilpp.
Product expertise and social responsibility combined
For the product manager, taking part in the besseresser Kids TV project was a real labour of love. "If technology helps children to understand nutrition and experience that sense of togetherness, it has fulfilled its purpose," summarises Patrick Hilpp.
The solution shows how responsibility within the school and product expertise can work together – and how well thought-out solutions can enrich everyday school life in the long term.
