"If you want to implement modern event catering, you need a partner like B.PRO."
In an exciting double interview, Rui Torres da Silva, catering manager at Fellbach Event & Location GmbH, and B.PRO commercial kitchen specialist Martin Kohler talk about clever event catering, elegant food serving – and a shared passion
A heart for satisfied guests, the pursuit of efficiency and a large helping of humour – these are the ingredients for the successful B.PRO food serving project implemented at Schwabenlandhalle Fellbach.
Fellbach Event & Location GmbH (feel) has been in charge of catering at the Schwabenlandhalle event venue since January 2025. This means that the congress centre is not only capable of offering up to 1,400 guests room hire and technology, but also culinary delights – all from one single source. An appealing task for the Portuguese Rui Torres da Silva, who took over the catering management at the same time. Torres da Silva wanted high-quality, modern food serving.
Mr Torres da Silva, why was it so important to you that B.PRO provided the food serving furniture?
Torres Da Silva: Mr Kohler and I got to know each other eight years ago at an event organised by the food service industry network meet & work . He presented food serving furniture from B.PRO there. I was blown away! I immediately saw that the
modules not only looked good, but were also really well thought out. I've been a fan ever since! (Laughs) After an invitation to the showroom, I ordered the first elements for my workplace at the time and have been repeatedly impressed ever since – also by the professional collaboration with Mr Kohler. We get on really well.
Martin Kohler: The fact that we both come from the food service industry certainly contributed to that. Before joining the B.PRO Group, I worked as a chef. For both myself and Mr Torres da Silva, making sure our guests are completely satisfied is a matter close to our hearts. We speak the same language.
How do these similarities affect the collaboration?
Kohler: Mr Torres da Silva is a bundle of different temperaments (laughs). He wants top results – and that is infectious. Anyone who approaches a project with such passion inevitably motivates others. You're happy to go the extra mile.

What were your requirements for food serving at the Schwabenlandhalle venue, Mr Torres da Silva?
Torres da Silva: For me, catering is about more than just food – it's the art of perfectly combining enjoyment and hospitality. For me, catering is an overall experience. It's not just about the food, but about hospitality and atmosphere. That's why I wanted modules that were functional and aesthetic at the same time. On the one hand, I needed reliable modules with maximum flexibility in order to be able to cater for the different numbers of guests and catering situations that are commonplace in trade fair catering. On the other hand, I wanted an elegant, uniform look. For example, having two plate warmers integrated into plain elements was particularly important to me. Mr Kohler was delighted! (laughs)
Kohler: Yes, this was definitely not a standard product! Such customised products naturally involve development costs. Management sometimes asks more detailed questions (laughs). There are built-in plate dispensers, of course – but these are designed more for permanently installed buffets. We had already implemented this product for Mr Torres da Silva. All the better that it has once again proved its worth. I am glad that we have a team at B.PRO that makes such wishes possible.
From this perspective, was the extra effort worth it?
Kohler: Definitely! The serving line in this design now has a consistently clear and high-quality appearance – almost sculptural. The combination of stainless steel, lighting and the colour traffic grey B gives the whole setup a modern, timeless look. Entirely to Mr Torres da Silva's taste and in keeping with the design of Schwabenlandhalle.
Mr Kohler, how did you implement the desire for flexibility?
Kohler: The mobile food serving line in the Schwabenlandhalle consists of three cold and three hot modules as well as two plain buffets. All furniture is mobile thanks to double castors. And the units are all ready for immediate use: Unpack, connect to a standard household 230-volt connection and get started. This fits in perfectly with the changing requirements at Schwabenlandhalle, whether a conference with buffet, workshop catering or a coffee break in the foyer. Incidentally, this versatility is not only an advantage at trade fairs, but also in hotels or company catering.

Mr Torres da Silva is also breaking new ground in terms of efficiency, isn't he?
Kohler: Yes. We are more familiar with food serving systems from the canteen or cafeteria. In traditional trade fair catering, it used to be standard practice to set up tables and equip them with chafing dishes. However, this means a lot of effort, as you need tablecloths, skirting and staff to fill the dishes. This solution is not mobile either. The B.PRO food serving line, on the other hand, makes work much easier and increases efficiency.
Torres da Silva: Exactly. We cater for up to 750 guests with our three buffet lines – and with a small core team. It is also incredibly fast to convert. And we save a lot of time when cleaning.
How long did it take to implement the food serving line?
Kohler: It takes a good six months from idea to finished installation. Following the invitation to tender, the order was placed in November and delivery took place in January. And no external planning office was required.
Mr Torres da Silva, what feedback have you received so far?
Torres da Silva: It has been positive all round. Our regular guests in particular notice the difference. For me, there is no doubt: If you want to realise a project like this, you need a partner like B.PRO.
