Children in the canteen at BPRO Basic Line Kids

New solutions for catering at daycare centres and schools

B.PRO focuses even more keenly on young guests. Optimised equipment and fresh ideas help in organising lunchtime operations more clearly and getting children involved more safely.

A good canteen should offer more than just a menu. In fact, the way in which children use the facilities also gives powerful insights. Can they find the right stations? Can they reach the food independently? Can they put trays down, remove plates and clear everything away themselves after eating?

In primary schools in particular, the importance of catering is growing due to the expansion of all-day care. When more children regularly eat on site, catering equipment is required that can handle short peak times, as well as various body sizes, hygiene requirements and limited staff resources.

With new and enhanced solutions, B.PRO brings more structure to daycare centre and school catering: from child-friendly serving counter and safe plate provision to orderly returns.

Food serving areas that reach children better

At daycare centres and schools, a good food serving area must be appropriate for the size of the children. The food should also be visible and easily accessible. This makes it simpler for children to find their way around, meaning that they do more themselves and the staff then have to explain less. The BASIC LINE Kids diagonal was developed as a heated servery counter for this purpose.

Arranging everything sideways brings the basins closer together. Children can then reach the food more easily. The ergonomic serving height of 750 millimetres further enhances this effect. The fact that both sides of the counter can be used provides greater freedom for various room situations and group sizes. At the same time, the BASIC LINE Kids diagonal simplifies access for wheelchair users, as no tray or plate slide is required.

There are also further details that are relevant for everyday use:

Hygienic provision of cold components

The greatly improved refrigerating capacity of the BASIC LINE SK modules with active contact cooling supports reliable serving of dishes such as salads, desserts or chilled sides.

Switch between service and self-service

A foldable, optionally available sneeze guard makes it easier to adjust operations based on the situation.

Create additional storage space

The Resopal Basic tray/plate slide extends the BASIC LINE system as an economical shelf solution. It offers additional storage space and is available in various colours.

Rounded shapes, for example on the new sneeze guard or the widened cover, make everything safer for children.

Innovative platform dispensers that protect children's hands

Warm plates optimise the dining experience. However, heat must never become a risk factor, especially at daycare centres and schools. Accordingly, B.PRO is now offering new heatable Kids versions of the platform dispensers: the UNI 59/29 Kids and the UNI-H 59/29 Kids.

The temperature is preset to 44°C and cannot be changed accidentally during operation. This protects children's hands and makes everyday use easier for staff. In addition, the convection heating ensures fast heat-up times.

B.PRO has also further developed the design of the platform dispensers. The new guide of the UNI 59/29 Kids and UNI-H 59/29 Kids, developed for automated stacking, ensures more stable running. This applies even when plates are removed from one side or the platform is loaded unevenly. Tipping and tilting movements are reduced, and provision is more reliable. Maintenance costs are also reduced.

A patent application has been filed for the new guide principle.

Returns that save resources

Only after everyone has eaten can you see just how well day-to-day canteen operations really work. When children can clearly categorise dishes, cutlery and waste, the returns process remains clear. Not only does this save time and reduce additional work, it also supports better waste separation.

This is critical, since the returns process is also gaining legal significance. Indeed, the Waste Framework Directive (EU) 2025/1892 sets binding reduction targets: By 2030, the aim is to reduce food waste by 30% per capita in schools, households, retail and catering operations, as well as by 10% per capita in processing. At the same time, the requirements for the separate collection of recyclable materials are increasing.

BASIC LINE SST-3 Kids Sorting Station

The BASIC LINE SST-3 Kids sorting station establishes fixed locations for used cutlery, organic waste, paper and plastics. Children then recognise more quickly what belongs where and can actively help with clearing away, which also has an educational effect.

Children at BPRO’s mobile clearing station

MCS Kids offers a suitable solution, depending on the room concept and process. Thanks to the mobile clearing station, arranged at a height suitable for children, even the youngest children can then return trays, plates, cutlery and glasses in a clearly organised way. Residual waste and paper can also be allocated directly. High-quality castors then guarantee a smooth trip back to the dishwashing area.

Practical accessories also extend the potential use in day-to-day operations: A drip tray holds glasses and cups, while a hanging frame creates space for GN containers. And a shelf offers additional space for trays.

Summary

B.PRO offers a modular system for daycare centres and schools that can be adapted to various arrangements, group sizes and room concepts. From serving, through provision, to returns: the catering solutions are matched to one another and establish the basis for daycare and school catering that works efficiently in day-to-day operations.
